Peter Knox QC provided pro bono legal assistance to The Death Penalty Project in proceedings before the Caribbean Court of Justice acting for Japhet Bennett who was serving a life sentence in Belize. Japhet was 17 years old when he was arrested on suspicion of murder almost a decade ago. The evidence against him at trial was so week the CCJ ruled that it was too unsafe to have allowed the jury to deliver a verdict.
Today Japhet Bennet walked free after his murder conviction was overturned.
