2025 marks the 40th anniversary of ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association). In May 1985, a group of 10 pioneer dealers established the Association in New York and published the very first standard document for the growing over-the-counter derivatives market. Jeffrey Golden KC (Hon) held the pen for that early Code of Swaps and went on to become a principal author of the ISDA Master Agreements.

40 years on, the ISDA Master Agreement forms the basis for derivatives trading of more than $700 trillion in outstanding notional amount. It was described by one High Court judge as probably the most widely used contract in the world and the most important standard form document in the financial world.

Jeffrey Golden KC (Hon) commented “The ISDA experience over four decades, the education that came with it and the documentation that came out of it have all been uniquely special. Like the song says, it was good to have been ‘in the room where it happened’!”

Jeffrey Golden KC (Hon) is a specialist arbitrator, mediator and expert with broad experience of a wide range of capital markets matters, including swaps and derivatives, international equity and debt offerings, US private placements and listings, and mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures.
