The Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs v. Maharaj and another [2020] UKPC 13

This appeal from Trinidad & Tobago before the Privy Council concerned two cases involving the suspension of licences for retail marketing of petrol. The appellants contended that the respondent Minister, who purported to suspend their licences, had no legal power to do so. Alternatively, they said that the Minister acted unfairly or in breach of their legitimate expectations as to procedure by the manner in which he effected the suspension. The appellants claimed damages for loss they have suffered as a result of the suspension and what they say amounted in substance to an unlawful revocation of the licences.
