We are pleased to announce that from 1st October 2007, Sir George Newman, on his retirement as a Judge of the Queen’s Bench Division, will be available to accept appointments, through Chambers, to conduct arbitrations, inquiries after neutral dispute evaluations.
Sir George was called to the Bar in 1965 and became a QC in 1981. As junior and leading counsel he was in practice at One Crown Office Row (chambers later moved to 3 Hare Court), specialising in commercial and constitutional cases. He has international experience both as an advocate and as an adviser to overseas governments.
He has acted in arbitrations as counsel for various states and has acted as an arbitrator in London, Singapore and Stockholm in commercial disputes involving both foreign states and commercial entities.
Sir George was appointed to the High Court Bench in 1995. As a Judge of the Queen’s Bench Division, he has presided over disputes in many fields of law, and as one of the Judges nominated to sit in the Administrative Court, he has considerable experience in a wide range of judicial review cases and matters concerning human rights.
