Our long tradition of acting in appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has meant that we have a particular expertise in constitutional law, and the application of constitutional principles. We are very familiar with written constitutions throughout the Commonwealth, with their interpretation and their application.
Typically, our cases will involve the alleged breaches of fundamental rights and freedoms: the rights to life; to the protection of the law and to fair trial; and the rights not to be deprived of property and to freedom from discrimination.
The importance of these cases cannot be overstated. We have appeared for governments and prime ministers to vindicate or defend challenges to the rule of law, and to the democratic freedoms of the people to vote in free and fair elections. We have often appeared pro bono, in many cases for prisoners under sentence of death
