Richard Campbell is a leading junior with a common law practice, with a particular speciality in both personal injury and travel law and is ranked as a ‘Leading Junior in Travel Law (including Jurisdictional Issues) – Tier 3’ by the Legal 500.

Richard accepts instructions on a wide range of civil and commercial matters. He regularly appears in court for both trials and interlocutory applications as well as undertaking a range of pleading and advisory work.

In 2020, Richard was appointed as a part-time Deputy District Judge on the South-Eastern Circuit to sit within the Civil Jurisdiction.

Richard regularly undertakes work with a foreign elements with a particular emphasis on accidents that have taken place abroad, illness claims, claims on behalf of foreign insurers in a travel or road traffic accident context, and Montreal and Athens Convention claims.

Expertise

Richard has extensive experience in litigation arising from personal injury claims that have occurred overseas and is ranked in the Legal 500 as a Tier 3 leading junior in Travel Law (including Jurisdictional Issues.)

He is regularly instructed by tour operators and airlines in personal injury claims pertaining to the Package Travel and Regulations as well as the Athens and Montreal Conventions; and by foreign insurers and foreign hoteliers in claims requiring the application of foreign law as well as the consideration of jurisdictional and forum disputes that may arise. Richard has particular expertise in the issues surrounding local standards evidence.

Richard has extensive experience in cross-border personal injury claims and is regularly instructed by foreign insurers in road traffic accident claims that may have taken abroad or on behalf of foreign domiciled defendants and their insurers.

Richard regularly acts and advices on a full range of domestic personal injury claims including public, employers’ and motor liability claims. He is also regularly instructed by local authorities in personal injury claims involving footpaths and highways and the duties and liabilities arising under the Highways Act 1980.

Richard has been involved in Pre-Inquest Reviews.
