Philip was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1989. After establishing a successful civil and commercial practice from Chambers in London he moved to Dubai, where in 2006 he became the first lawyer in the UAE to be admitted to the DIFC Courts register of advocates. Since 2009, he has led the Middle East disputes practice of two successive US laws firms.

Philip has represented clients before most major arbitral institutions, as well as in ad hoc proceedings. His recent arbitral engagements have concerned real-estate Mega Projects in the Gulf, investment treaty claims arising out of the MENA and South Asia regions, aircraft charter agreements, concession agreements in the water sector and technology disputes in the finance and healthcare sectors.

In 2014, Philip was the first DIFC Courts practitioner to be appointed by the DIFC Courts to the role of Supervising Legal Representative (SLR). In 2018, he was appointed by the DIFC Courts to oversee the execution of the Search Order granted to the Danish Customs and Tax Authority (SKAT). Philip is ranked as a Leading Individual in Chambers Global (2009-2022).
