Claire’s practice focuses on public law, Public Inquiries, commercial, insolvency, aviation and sport  law, with both domestic and international elements.

Claire has experience across all of Chambers’ core practice areas, appearing in trials, preliminary hearings and interim applications in the County Court, as well as undertaking a variety of led work and paperwork across chambers’ practice areas.

She is developing her public law practice and has been instructed on the Undercover Policing Inquiry since mid-2023, and previously worked on the Post Office Inquiry. Earlier this year she was instructed by the Attorney General in Jersey in proceedings relating to a misfeasance in a public office claim in the Royal Court of Justice.

Prior to joining chambers and throughout her policy work at the United Nations Department of Peace Operations and elsewhere in New York, Nairobi and Cape Town, Claire gained exposure to many jurisdictions and legal systems. Her work and research have seen her interviewing leading International Criminal Court prosecutors at The Hague, as well as acting as legal representative of refugees in South Africa in matters ranging from property disputes to employment issues.

Expertise

Claire accepts instructions in various matters of public  inquiry work, having a keen interest in this area of practice. Claire is instructed on behalf of the Designated Lawyers Team on the Undercover Policing Inquiry, which seeks to investigate undercover police operations and practices between 1968 and 2008 in England. She was also instructed on the Post Office Inquiry in 2023-2024, which examined the implementation and failings of the Horizon IT system at the Post Office over its lifetime. Claire welcomes instructions on further Inquiries.

Claire’s public law experience also includes recently acting for the Attorney General in Jersey in relation to proceedings in the Royal Court of Justice, culminating in a two-week trial.

She has also:

  • Been led by Thomas Roe KC in Judicial Review proceedings in the High Court of Justice
  • Assisted Simon Davenport KC with case law research regarding the court’s approach on deciding preliminary issues in advance of trials in the Caribbean.
  • Assisted Robert Strang with case law research relating to the interpretation of summary offences and limitation in relation to the Summary Courts Act (and related historic acts), in the matter of Chandra Silochan and another (Appellants) v Rickie Cedeno (Respondent) (Trinidad and Tobago) [2023] UKPC 5.

Claire has undertaken a variety of pro bono legal work, including acting as Project Leader of Durham University’s Lawyers Without Borders and Syrian Legal Development Programmes, whereby she worked on a variety of projects and cases to promote access to justice and the rule of law across the world.

Earlier this year, Claire completed a secondment at Viberts law firm in Jersey, drafting advices and pleadings in trust, personal injury and commercial matters. Her legal work frequently includes international elements.

Claire recently received funding from Inner Temple to attend the Geoffrey Nice Foundation Masterclass 2025 in Dubrovnik on war crimes and mass atrocities.

Claire is developing a broad practice incorporating all aspects of company and insolvency litigation and advisory work. She was recently led in a large disclosure and redactions exercise in an insolvency matter by a senior member of chambers.

Claire also advises on insolvency applications and litigation, including complex disputes in relation to COMI, and she is regularly instructed to appear in winding up and bankruptcy petitions.

Claire has assisted senior members of chambers in various company and insolvency matters, for example drafting an injunction in relation to the future presentation of a winding up petition, and providing assistance in a matter relating to the restriction of transfers of shares in companies in articles of association and shareholders agreements.

Claire is growing herpractice in all aspects of commercial litigation and advisory work, advising on a range of general matters and drafting contracts for commercial transactions.  Earlier this year, Claire completed a secondment at Viberts law firm in Jersey, drafting advices in commercial and trust matters.She has worked on a variety of commercial disputes, including:

  • Assisting Thomas Roe KC with research in regards to drafting clauses in a purchase agreement in the coal mining industry to protect party in event of default or early termination by a buyer.
  • Assisting Simon Davenport KC with research regarding pursuing a stay of proceedings in claims whereby reference has already been made to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
  • Assisting Asela Wijeyaratne in a matters relating to contractual interpretation, including in relation to breach of contract in loan agreements and terms in distribution contracts.

Claire regularly represents a number of airlines in claims for breach of contract and passenger compensation claims under the Montreal Convention and Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Further, she also drafts pleadings on behalf of airlines for use in Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution proceedings.

Claire also publishes articles on the latest developments in travel litigation in Chambers’ Travel and Aviation Quarterly. This has included a case analysis regarding the High Court’s judgment in Lambert v Motor Insurer’s Bureau [2022] EWHC 583 (QB) with Asela Wijeyaratne. She has also written articles on other travel law matters, including an analysis of the CJEU referral on the issue of interpretation of Articles 3 and 13(1) of the Motor Insurance Directive 2009/103.

She accepts instructions on a wide array of litigation, including interim applications, costs disputes, case management conferences (CMCs) and costs and case management conferences (CCMCs).
