A jury has been unable to find that the death of a female foreign national prisoner at HMP Cookham Wood was caused by neglect after a 4 week inquest into her death. The prisoner was found dead after suffering an epileptic fit in her cell. The Article 2 ECHR inquest heard allegations of systemic failure by the prison in dealing with prisoners suffering from severe medical conditions such as epilepsy. In the weeks leading to her death the prisoner’s dose of anti-seizure drugs was halved. A verdict of death by natural causes was returned.
