Miranda acts in a wide range of civil, public and commercial matters and is regularly instructed in all of 3 Hare Court’s practice areas. Her areas of specialism are set out below.

IMMIGRATION, PUBLIC LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Miranda has a particular interest in administrative and public law, including civil liberties and human rights. She regularly appears in the High Court, Upper Tribunal and First Tier Tribunal in immigration appeals, bail applications and judicial review claims, including emergency injunctions. She has a particular specialism in asylum and deportation cases.

Miranda is a coordinator of the Athens Refugee Legal Support Project, which sends experienced immigration practitioners to Greece to provide legal advice and representation for asylum seekers. She has volunteered as an advocate in both Chios and Athens, during which time she gained particular experience of working with unaccompanied minors.

Prior to pupillage Miranda volunteered in Pentonville and Wormwood Scrubs prisons as a teacher and has a strong background in penal reform. She regularly undertakes advisory work in prison law claims and is currently instructed in a number of linked civil claims arising out of unlawful strip searching of female prisoners.

Miranda also has experience in litigation before the European Court of Human Rights, having acted for the interveners in the case of Khadija Ismayilova v Azerbaijan. She was awarded the 2017 Pegasus Scholarship for a three month internship at the Court.

Miranda also works regularly for the civil liberties organisation Liberty and has undertaken work for the Death Penalty Project. She regularly acts as pro bono counsel for Bail for Immigration Detainees.

PERSONAL INJURY, TRAVEL LITIGATION AND CONFLICT OF LAWS

Miranda is regularly instructed to advise and appear in a range of personal injury and travel claims.

Miranda undertakes a range of pleading, advisory and court work on claims raising jurisdictional issues and conflicts of law. She is regularly instructed in respect of claims under the Package Travel Regulations and the Athens (ships / cruises) and Montreal (air carriage) Conventions, as well as direct actions against insurers. Miranda has also acted in claims arising from flight delays and cancellations under the Denied Boarding Regulations.

COMMERCIAL AND PROPERTY

Miranda has recently appeared as sole junior counsel in the Supreme Court in the case of Thevarajah v Riordan and has appeared alone in the High Court on a related application in the same case.

Miranda regularly handles property disputes including possession, forfeiture and dilapidation. She accepts instructions from both landlords and tenants.

Miranda has a strong commercial practice, with particular expertise in matters involving insolvency and bankruptcy. Recently acted as sole junior counsel, led by Thomas Roe QC, in a multi-party franchise dispute.

In 2014-2015 Miranda worked as the Judicial Assistant to Lord Kerr at the Supreme Court and Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, during which time she worked on high-profile public law cases including:
