3 Hare Court has extensive experience across the field of civil liberties and human rights law, with members engaged in human rights advisory work for domestic and overseas governments, public authorities and statutory bodies, particularly on compliance of laws and constitutions with international human rights principles. Several members appeared before the largest-ever bench of the Privy Council (nine Law Lords) in a joined appeal, which was widely reported in the media, on the constitutionality of the death penalty in the Caribbean countries. A particular feature of our Human Rights practice is the experience we have of cases which involve a mix of public law and civil liberties/human rights issues – examples include cases involving gender recognition, religious rights and freedoms, corporal punishment in schools, and ‘right to life’ cases. Members of Chambers have experience of Extradition proceedings, which inevitably raise issues of civil liberties and human rights. Senior members of Chambers appeared in a recent leading case on freedom of the press and information.

We are recommended as a leading set in Human Rghts and Civil Liberties in Legal 500 2009, with James Guthrie QC , James Dingemans QC  and Peter Knox QC  individually recommended.
