At the heart of 3 Hare Court’s public law practice is its long-established reputation and expertise in constitutional law work, much of it in the Privy Council. We frequently appear both for and against governments and government agencies on a range of constitutional issues, often with human rights and civil liberties implications. Much of Chambers’ work, for both senior and junior members, is in this area.

Five members of chambers appeared before the largest-ever bench of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (9 Law Lords) in a joined appeal – widely reported – on the constitutionality of the mandatory death penalty in the Caribbean countries.

All senior members of chambers have substantial experience in constitutional law issues (particularly in the Privy Council). Head of Chambers James Guthrie QC is an acknowledged expert on the law relating to elections.
